Lamborghini Along with Main Series Partner Blancpain Roared Back Through the Speedway in Mount Fuji's Foothills this Weekend

Lamborghini along with main series partner Blancpain roared back through the speedway in mount Fuji's foothills this weekend to kick-off another season of pure, thrilling race action in the fourth consecutive year of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asian series. 17 cars from 9 different regions gathered at the Fuji International Speedway, along with hundreds of spectators and enthusiasts to celebrate the return of this much anticipated series, and Asian race debut of the Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2.

Set against a backdrop of picturesque Mt. Fuji, the notorious speedway is a blisteringly fast track, boasting a 1.5km uninterrupted straight where the cars can attain near maximum speed. The International Speedway at Fuji represents an iconic and fitting location for another coming together of Lamborghini and Blancpain, bolstering the pure racing passion and timeless sophistication exemplified by each host respectively. This year included a stunning Lamborghini road car parade, featuring more than 40 immaculately turned out examples, allowing local owners, showing fantastic support for the event, a chance to make several laps of the historic circuit, wowing onlookers.

On the starting grid the atmosphere was buzzing, with huge excitement and enthusiasm shown by the crowd for the new Huracán LP 620-2 race car.

With low hanging clouds shrouding Mt Fuji's peak pre-race, the weather was pleasantly cool, with temperatures hovering around 20°C. The qualifying session put Davide Rizzo in pole position on the starting grid, followed by Afiq Yazid and Anthony Wong, with Hideo Akagi and Kazuki Hiramine in third overall. During the race, PRO drivers Yazid and Rizzo fought hard for first place with PRO-AM Toshiyuki Ochiai climbing to back to third after falling behind to Akagi and Hiramine and Zhang and Li. All drivers put on an excellent display of their skills.

Professional drivers Afiq Yazid and David Rizzo took overall first and second place respectively. Local fans were happy to see a podium finish by a Japanese driver in the PRO-AM class, with Toshiyuki Ochiai taking second place, Dilantha Malagamuwa and Armaan Ebrahim of Sri Lanka and Indonesia in third, with Li Chao and Zhang Da Sheng from China finishing in first. The AM category saw greater success for Japan, with two podium finishes. Akira Mizutani and Hajime Noma took first, with Michael Choi and Keith Chan from Hong Kong second and Takei Hirofumi and Satoshi Furuta in third.

This first round of racing always provides a great challenge, however because of excellent car design and execution, drivers have grown accustomed to the new cars quickly, with faster and faster lap times achieved as the race went on. Tomorrow's race day is expected to see even faster laps, with yet more exciting action on Fuji's hallowed ground.
